Our Commitment to Truth
At Newshours18, accuracy is our primary obligation. We recognize that in a digital-first environment, misinformation can spread rapidly. Our fact-checking policy ensures that every piece of information we publish—whether breaking news or long-form analysis—is scrutinized for factual integrity.
The Verification Process
Every story undergoes a multi-layer verification process before it reaches our readers:
- Primary Sourcing: We prioritize first-hand evidence, including official government documents, court records, and direct statements from involved parties.
- Cross-Verification: We require at least two independent, reliable sources for any significant factual claim that is not public record.
- Subject Expert Review: For specialized topics (Science, Health, Finance, or Law), we consult with accredited experts to ensure technical accuracy.
Source Standards
- Anonymous Sources: We only use anonymous sources when the information is of vital public interest and the source faces potential harm. The identity of such sources must be known to at least one senior editor.
- Transparency: Whenever possible, we provide direct links or citations to our data sources, allowing readers to verify the information for themselves.
Handling Misinformation & Viral Content
In line with the DNPA Code of Ethics, we actively monitor social media for viral claims. When we identify a viral story that is false or misleading, we publish a dedicated “Fact Check” report using the following criteria:
- Claim: The specific statement being checked.
- Context: Where and how the claim is spreading.
- The Facts: Evidence-based rebuttal of the claim.
- Verdict: Clear labeling (e.g., True, False, Misleading, or Lacks Context).
Correction & Update Protocol
We believe in radical transparency. If an error is discovered post-publication:
- Correction Note: A clear note is added to the top or bottom of the article explaining what was changed and why.
- Timestamps: All updates are marked with the date and time to show the evolution of the story.
- Full Deletion: As per our Takedown Policy, if a story is found to be fundamentally false, it will be removed entirely, and a public explanation will be provided.
Reader Participation
We encourage our community to help us maintain these standards. If you believe we have published an error, please contact our Fact-Check Desk:
